Sonus
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
At Sonus, we value your privacy. This app was built to work without sign-ups and without accounts. Sonus has no server of its own: the sounds ship inside the app, and what you set up stays on your device. This policy explains the little data that does leave it, why, and how you control it.
Who is responsible
Sonus is developed by Vinícius Soares, who is the controller of the data described here. For any privacy question or request, write to vcsoares42@gmail.com.
What we collect
The app does not ask for sign-ups, email, name, phone number, location, or financial data, does not use the microphone, and shows no advertising. To understand how the app is used and improve it, and only if usage data sharing is on, we collect usage data: which screens were opened, which sounds and mixes were played and for how long, how the sleep timer was set, whether the bedtime reminder is on, whether the app was opened from the widget or the lock screen, the app language and version, the iOS version and device model, whether a subscription was viewed, started or completed, and your answers to the two questions Sonus asks when it first opens: what you want help with and how you heard about Sonus.
This data is tied only to a random identifier generated on your device the first time usage data sharing is on, unrelated to your name, your Apple Account, your email, or the iOS advertising identifier. Because it is tied to that identifier, the law treats it as pseudonymous personal data, not as anonymous data. When this data is received, the analytics service uses the connection's IP address to estimate the country and region of use and then discards it: the IP address is not stored. We do not collect your precise location. We do not record your screen and do not sell this data. Usage data is not used to track you across apps.
Your choice about usage data
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, nothing is collected and no identifier is created until you tap Share Usage Data on the question Sonus shows the first time it opens. In other countries, usage data sharing is on by default.
In those countries, you can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Share Usage Data. The app keeps working normally with it off. Turning it off stops collection from that moment; it does not affect what was collected before, which you can ask us to delete. In other countries, you can ask us at any time to stop using your usage data or to delete it by writing to us with the identifier shown in Settings ▸ Privacy.
Ad measurement
Only if usage data sharing is on, the app asks Apple's AdServices framework for an attribution token and sends it to RevenueCat, which uses it to ask Apple whether the app was installed from an Apple Ads campaign, and if so which campaign, ad group and keyword. This tells us which ads work. It does not use the iOS advertising identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.
To measure our Google Ads campaigns, Sonus asks for your permission to track through the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt (in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, only after you have chosen to share usage data). Only if you tap Allow, the app uses Google's Firebase Analytics to record that it was installed and opened, and when a free trial starts or a purchase is made, with the plan and price, the device model, iOS version, app version and language. This is tied to a random identifier that Firebase creates on the device and to the iOS advertising identifier. RevenueCat forwards free trial and subscription events to Google under that same Firebase identifier. Google Ads uses this to tell us which Google ad campaigns led to installs and subscriptions; the data is not used to show you personalized ads. If you tap Ask App Not to Track, Firebase is never started and nothing is sent to Google. You can change your answer at any time in the iPhone's Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Tracking; turning it off stops this and deletes the Firebase identifier from the device.
For everyone, whatever the answer, the app uses Apple's SKAdNetwork: Apple tells ad networks such as Google, in aggregate and without identifying you or your device, whether an install that came from their ad led to a free trial or a purchase.
Data stored only on your device
Some information is saved only on your device so the app can work, and it never leaves it:
- the mixes you saved, with their name, sounds and per-layer volumes;
- your sleep timer settings and the bedtime reminder time;
- your preferences for appearance, resuming sound when the app opens, and sharing usage data;
- what is currently playing, shared with the home screen widget on the device itself.
When you delete the app, this information is deleted with it.
Notifications
The bedtime reminder uses local notifications, scheduled on the device itself. No information is sent to servers for this.
Widget, lock screen and Siri
Playback controls in the widget, on the lock screen and through Siri shortcuts work entirely on the device, with no internet access.
Subscriptions and payments
Sonus Pro is sold entirely by Apple through the App Store. We have no access to your payment data. Managing and canceling subscriptions is done in your Apple Account settings, and the handling of that data is governed by Apple's privacy policy. To validate the purchase, its status (active, in free trial, canceled, lifetime) is processed by the RevenueCat service, tied to a random identifier that RevenueCat creates on the device. This processing is required to unlock what you bought and happens even with usage data sharing turned off. Only if usage data sharing is on, RevenueCat also forwards subscription events, such as renewals and cancellations, to PostHog under the usage data identifier. Only if you allowed tracking, it also forwards free trial and subscription events to Google under the Firebase identifier.
Legal bases
- Usage data and Apple Ads attribution: your consent in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland; in other countries, our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and improving it, which you can object to at any time by writing to us.
- Google Ads measurement: your consent, given through the App Tracking Transparency prompt, everywhere.
- Purchase validation: performance of the contract when you buy Sonus Pro.
Services we use
The data described above is processed by these services, under data processing agreements:
- PostHog, for usage statistics, with servers in the United States;
- RevenueCat, for subscription status and Apple Ads attribution, with servers in the United States;
- Google, for Google Ads measurement through Firebase Analytics, with servers in the United States and other countries. For ad measurement, Google also acts as an independent controller, under its own policy.
Transfers of data from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland to the United States rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses included in those agreements and, for Google, also on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. We do not sell any data to third parties or use it to show you personalized ads.
How long we keep data
Usage data is kept for up to 25 months and then deleted. Ad measurement data is kept by Google for up to 14 months. Subscription status is kept by RevenueCat while it is needed to provide and validate your purchase and to meet legal accounting obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the European Union's GDPR, the UK GDPR and Brazil's LGPD, you have the right to access your data, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting processing done before. Because we do not know who you are, we can only find your usage data through its identifier: you can see it in Settings ▸ Privacy and include it in your request to vcsoares42@gmail.com. We answer within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of your country.
Sonus makes no automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page, with the update date at the top. If a change affects how usage data is used, the app will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
